Immigration Debate and 'Someone You Should Know'

It's getting late and I want to get this information to you, so here goes.
Tonight on Pundit Review Radio, we will be speaking with one of the leading organizers of Boston’s May Day, pro-immigration, (or is it pro-illegal immigration?), rally.

Hank Gonzales, a Harvard student whose political affiliation is with the Socialist Alternative, and the Boston Mayday Coalition will be our guest in the 8pm hour.

About Us: The Socialist Alternative:
Socialist Alternative is a national organization fighting in our workplaces, communities, and campuses against the exploitation and injustices people face every day. We are union activists fighting for workers’ rights and militant, democratic unions; we are people of color speaking out against racism, students organizing against sweatshops and war, immigrants demanding papers for all undocumented workers, women and men fighting sexism and homophobia.

We campaign for the building of a mass workers’ party to represent the interests of workers, youth, and the environment against the two parties of big business.

We see the global capitalist system as the root cause of terrorism, war, poverty, discrimination, and environmental destruction.
About Us: Boston May Day Coalition:
We came together to fill in the void produced when no rally was called on May Day in the City of Boston. In the recent past every May Day was marked by a rally and in particular related to the struggle of undocumented immigrant workers. The links between International Workers Day and the struggle of undocumented immigrant workers coming from all over the world cannot be more clear. We are therefore calling on all people to come out on May Day and rally in support of the Great National Strike and Boycott called by immigrant organizations throughout the country.

We emphasize the historical aspects of these struggles from the Haymarket Square Affair in 1886 to the massive demonstrations of immigrant workers today in the U.S. From the struggle for the 8-hours work-day and the struggle for full rights for all immigrants today.
At 9pm [EST], as always, Matt from Blackfive will join us for Someone You Should Know, our weekly collaboration to bring the inspirational, true stories of the men and women that are fighting for us around the world to the radio.

What is Pundit Review Radio?

Pundit Review Radio is where the old media meets the new. Each week Kevin & Gregg give voice to the work of the most influential leaders in the new media/citizen journalist revolution. Hailed as “Groundbreaking” by Talkers Magazine, this unique show brings the best of the blogs to your radio every Sunday evening at 8pm EST on AM680 WRKO, Boston’s Talk Leader.
This is brought to you courtesy of Kevin and Gregg of the Pundit Review Radio. I hope to hear you there. Have a nice evening.

Greg is going home tomorrow!

Greg will be leaving the hospital tomorrow with his wife, Sher. He has been in pain due to the operation he had to biopsy some lympnodes to see if they were cancerous, but he will finally get to go home.

Sher will finally be able to lay out full throttle on her own bed, instead of that tiny couch with the two-inch thing they call a mattress! That is going to be a blessing in itself. She has been a trooper, and he has been a brave soul.

Many of you have written cards and letters, and they are deeply appreciated. Just imagine. A little 37-cent stamp, a card and/or letter, and a little time and effort can truly brighten the day of a Soldier (and spouse!) who has been taken out of duty not by the enemy, but by disease. I thank God we have the medical knowledge, and the Soldiers' Angels, to help save this husband/father's life. God bless you all.

Daily Quote 5/7/2006

Monday, May 1, 2006
"There is no good government but what is republican. That the only valuable part of the British constitution is so; for the true idea of a republic is "an empire of laws, and not of men." That, as a republic is the best of governments, so that particular arrangement of the powers of
society, or in other words, that form of government which is best contrived to secure an impartial and exact execution of the law, is the best of republics." --John Adams (Thoughts on Government, 1776), Reference: A Government of Laws, Sandoz, (cover page)

This is so emotions do not rule the day. Hmm...

"There is a time for all things, a time to preach and a time to pray, but those times have passed away. There is a time to fight, and that time has now come." --Peter Muhlenberg (from a Lutheran sermon read at Woodstock, Virginia, January 1776), reference: resp. quoted

And that's what the Pastors were saying! What happened to the spirit of freedom that ruled over the home of the brave?

"The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave." --Patrick Henry (speech in the Virginia Convention, 23 March 1775), Reference: American Heritage Dictionary of American Quotations (130)

Amen.

"It is the right as well as the duty of all men in society, publicly and at stated seasons, to worship the Supreme Being, the great Creator and Preserver of the universe. And no subject shall be hurt, molested, or restrained in his person, liberty, or estate, for worshipping God in the manner and season most agreeable to the dictates of his own conscience; or for his religion profession of sentiments; provided he doth not disturb the public peace, or obstruct others in their religious worship...." For the Love of a Soldier

There are two new additions to my Milblogs blogroll. I would like to tell you a little about them. Actually, all I know is a little. Greg's wife has been a civillian trooper for her husband who has been battling cancer. She also blogs as they hurry up and wait in the hospital. Prayers are in big demand.

He had an operation (byopsy) on Monday to find out if the lymphnodes were cancerous or not. They took fifteen. Twelve came back noncancerous. That is very good. The doctors said he would have to do chemo for at least 9 months to make sure they get it all.

Please go over to both of their sites frequently to follow his (and hers) progress through this. You would not believe how important it is to them to hear from you. If enough of us take up this cause (as prayer warriors), he may be healed months sooner.

If you do not believe in God, send good vibes! It is all worth the effort. I appreciate all you do for others. You certainly are amazing readers. Thank you.

Hat tip to Milblogging.com.

The War Tapes: Trailer

Over at Milblogging.com, I found this mixed, emotional tape of three men who went to Iraq. They all have their own experiences, and they all deal with them differently. It is better to hear from the men themselves than anything the dinosaur media displays as jounalism. Go check it out. Have a great day.

Club for Growth Wins 2 for 2

Right up front, I am a member of Club for Growth. (Hey, NY Times: This is what we in journalism call 'full disclosure.' Just thought I'd let you in on a secret. lol)

Many Republicans are disgusted with the way Congress is behaving lately. That is because most of the Republicans are not Conservatives. The Club for Growth, while not actually involved in divisive issues, is involved with fiscal responsibility, honorable candidates, growth in the economy through less government, and most of the issues we adore. I would say that is a pretty good track record.

Another reason to celebrate our track record is because we go up against the incumbants, and we win. Let me talk to about some wins we had this past week.

We went up against the establishment with Jim Jordan. Boy, were they shocked!
The Club's PAC backed Republican State Sen. Jim Jordan, who led the fight against two of the largest tax hikes in state history. When Governor Taft proposed a huge tax hike as part of the 2003 budget, not only did Jordan oppose it, but he proposed an alternative, leaner budget that didn't raise taxes.
Even though Mr. Jordan paid a heavy price for refusing to go along to get along (he lost a state facility in his district), he stuck to his principles. These are the type of candidates we support.

In Ohio we supported Ken Blackwell. As a rule of thumb, we usually only support national candidates. This was a special treat. We were happy and glad to support Ken. Congratulations to both of you.

Mr. Blackwell is running for Ohio's Governorship. This is going to be interesting to watch how the Democrats handle this. Will they call him an Uncle Tom? Let us watch.

If you would like to find out more about the candidates we are supporting and how you can help, please visit Club for Growth. You may also call Pat Toomey, President, at (800) 784-2741.

Please consider coming over to our side. I have not given one red cent for over two years, and I feel good about that. I have been trying get true Conservatives elected without the help of President George W. Bush. I love him, but he is wrong. Let show him how wrong he is by electing candidates that will not allow him to get away with all this spending without accountability.

Update: As I was reading the Club for Growth blog, I came across this article at the Heritage Foundation. This is a great place to go if you want to stay informed on Washington and your tax dollars. They are also a club to which I belong. Full disclosure. lol.

This is The Policy Blog where I found this little tidbit which was written by J. Lawrence Scholer: The Thursday Ledger. (Hat tip: Andrew Roth) If you appreciate simplified economic policies, this is the site for you. It will also make you angry to know how your money is really be spent.

'ER' meets Darfur tonight on NBC

Tonight on NBC's 'ER' there will be an episode that will spend more time on Darfur than the three big news stations have spent all together. 10 minutes total. Please don't miss it. Thank you. [read more about it]

How are you?

I'm so angry I could spit. If creepo does not deserve the death penalty, then we might as well take it off the books.

I have called the White House (1-202-456-1111), and I let them know how I feel. I also let them know President Bush needs to educate the masses that we definitely are at war.

We are not at war against criminals. We have enough of those. We are finally at war with an ideology who has been at war with us. A declared war. The objective? To remove us totally and forever.

We need to be of the same mind. We need to get serious, and we need to stop nit-picking at each little misstep. It does not matter which administration is in office. I am not prepared to endanger our brave men and women in uniform, just because I do not like who is in the White House.

I also let them know that we do not believe them about this amnesty business. They will never get it through. If they do, they have destroyed themselves. I let them know THAT is why the numbers are so low in the polls.

We do not believe they will enforce the law. How do I know this? Because they are not enforcing the laws we have now. The proof is in the puddin'.

Other than that, I live in the best and greatest country on the face of this earth. Yes, God bless America. Happy National Prayer Day.

Pictures from the Darfur Rally

The Washington Post has many pictures you may watch on a slide show. Just click 'skip' to the commercial they play. You may also view them individually.

After visiting the 'Rally for Darfur' photos, you may want to watch the 'A Complicated Crisis in Chad and Sudan' photos. There is a very horrible tension and war about to break out there.

Maybe, if we get enough people to wake up, we can actually change the situation for these brothers and sisters of ours. Yes, they are our brothers and sisters. What did Jesus say?

(Paraphrased) "When I was hungry you fed me. When I was thirsty, you gave me drink. And they said, 'But Lord, when did we do this?' And Jesus answered, 'When ever do this for the least of these, you are doing it for Me.' "

There is also a site that has some pictures. It is called Yeshiva University. Please pay it a visit. Tell everyone you know. Get involved. How?

Get in touch with Save Darfur, and see if there is something there that fits your means and schedule. If all you can do is write about it, then write on, my brother/sister! Have a nice day.

A Comment to the NY Times Comment

This is the comment I wrote to the Opinion Journal concerning the NY Times response to an article written on April 26, 2006:
I would like to address your list of 'suspects.' The first one you list is President Bush with your usual slight of hand. It is not that he is a leaker. He who has the authority to classify and declassify thereby can no longer be a leaker than the owner of a store is who takes home some food to eat from his store [is a thief].

Next I would like to address your decision to print our national secrets. Why? Do you really believe we have a right to know the secrets that are keeping us safe? If it is not illegal (which the things you reported were not), then to who[m]'s benefit is it, except the enemy? Are you the enemy?

This is why we have laws for treason, and I don't believe being a journalist is covered from prosecution. You certainly have the right to print our national secrets, and bring damage to us. We, at the same time, have the right to prosecute [you].

Conscientious objectors? They [CIA personnel] are not in the Military, they are working at the behest of the United States. They have sworn an oath to secrecy. They have broken that oath. That apparently is alright with you, since you receive awards [for the same action, when it suits you]. The rest of us have to wonder, 'When is the next strike, now that we cannot use this form of protection?'

You agonized over the publishing [of] national secrets until one of your writers was due to have his book hit the market? I find this less believable than I do laughable.

I am an American first. I write my articles from an American point of view. Neither Left, nor Right. Just accurate. I have not found this to be true in your case.

I have to search the world over to learn about what is truly happening, because you decide we do not need to know about the Peace Talks that are occurring between Pakistan and India, [Iraq's] PM Maliki is just what Iraqis need and the tensions have been resolved, etc, etc.

No, Sir. You are a fraud. No one from this White House has ever called anyone unpatriotic, but your paper has. These are not domestic wiretappings. They are not even wiretappings! Yet you run with this story to turn people against this President in a time of war.

I read the poll. You, Sir, do not even believe we are at war. I suggest you take a short walk and visit that hole in the ground. Better yet. Go watch United 93. Maybe, just maybe, you will remember why we are at war. Good day.

Rosemary Last Name
Knickerbocker News
It was not published with the other responses, and I believe I know why. I was very angry, although I tried not to write angrily. Also, I enclosed my place of business. They may have thought I was looking for readership. Not so, but I can see their point of view.

It could also have been I just did not make a very strong case? Nah. lol. Have a good day.

Update: I went back to reread my comment, and I would not have published it either. My goodness. Just look at all those errors! Oh well. Better luck next time, right? lol.

Cautiously Optimistic in Iraq

Omar has written an encouraging article about the progress of the political situation in Iraq.

It would appear that PM Jawad Noori al-Maliki holds the key to the gridlock we all witnessed. Both the MNC (Multi-National Coalition) and the differing blocs within Iraq have accepted al-Maliki with good feelings. They have reason to trust these feelings, but only so far.

When PM al-Maliki first was announced, it was a surprise because no one really knew him or his intentions. These intentions are becoming better known, and they seem pretty good to me.

The tension between the political blocs seems to have resided. He has also called for the disbanning of the militias! Now, no one really wants the job of Interior Minister, so there is no argument over this issue. lol. It will surely be a difficult task, and whoever accepts this opportunity will have to be brave. He/she will also be known as a hero/heroine in the history books if they are successful.

In a different development, there is an opportunity for a woman to become Deputy Prime Minister! Her name is Safiya al-Suhail, and you may read about her background by clicking on her name. Omar believes, among others, she is more qualified for this position than most of the men!

We must pray for this new government. It is not written in concrete that everyone will be confirmed, as it is with our own government. I am not sure the hard-liners in the Shia religion or the Sunni religion will vote for a woman, but they may surprise us. They do not want to be seen as discriminating, but maybe they truly believe she is qualified? Either way, we have to wait and see...[read Omar's article].

Atlantic Review Covers Darfur Rally

Atlantic Review has updates on the Darfur Rally. While it may not have been as large as some of the others in recent history, it certainly was the most diverse. Please, go read it!

Here is the comment I left:
Thank you for covering this. Actually, the number of dead is closer to 400,000. That was last summer! I am so outraged. President Bush is waiting on a Darfur Accountability Act. To help, call toll free 877-762-8762 to get this out of committee. Thank you.
I should have added that he is waiting TO SIGN IT. It is hung up in the Senate, as usual. Please use all your influence, and you do have influence, to get these Senators off their buttockses. If they will not, maybe they need a permanent vacation from public duty, eh? Hmm...
