Africa: The Forgotten Continent

Many discussions have been about Asia, Europe, India, the ME, South America and North America; but it is seldom that there is a discussion about Africa.

Why is this important? It is important because there are many countries in Africa, and many of these countries are possible hot spots.

Sudan has the janjaweed militia at war with the government’s region of Darfur. Chad is claiming that Sudan has committed an act of war against their country. Somalia has been overthrown by al Qaida. The Congo is still in a very long war with rebels. Sierra Leonne is trying to put Charles Taylor, the deposed dictator of Liberia, on trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

This is just to name a few. While all of this has been happening, al Qaida has been moving in and gaining strength and training camps. They just move into an area and people flee. They have no choice.

The US Military is in the Horn of Africa. They are trying to do the best they can, and this is very good! But there is so much more to be done. The American people do not know of these atrocities, therefore they appear uninterested.

Maybe someone, someday will be able to convince the American people that the continent of Africa is not only rich in uranium, oil, and diamonds; but it is also rich in people. People who have aspirations and intelligence, dreams and love to spare, hope you would never imagine to be alive, and culture.

Materials or life. Which is more wealthy to you?
