Sudan tortures AU Members

I have learned today that the Sudanese government has sent it's police and security forces to the headquarters of the African Union (AU). They proceeded to disarm them, loot the place, jail the people there, torture them while jailed, and finally released them. This headquarter has been set up after the cease-fire and peace agreement signed April 8, 2004.
From reports received at this centre, we have been informed that the African Union has now removed those affected from the prison and placed them close to the border with Chad. Other rebel members of the Ceasefire Commission have temporarily suspended their work on monitoring until such time as this matter can be resolved. They expressed deep concern to this centre this morning regarding the ability of the African Union to ensure their safety and to prevent government forces from acting in this arbitrary manner. They said that the Sudanese government has singularly failed to honour the agreements it signed. You may read more here.

There are 3 bills in progress. In the House, one is sponsered by Rep. Payne, Rep. Tancredo, and others. The number is 1424, and the name is the Darfur Genocide Accountability Act of 2005. The Senate has two bills: Darfur Accountability Act of 2005 S 495.IS, sponsored by Sen. Brownback, Sen. Lieberman, and others. The other bill they are working on is S.CON.RES.17.IS named Calls on NATO to enact a no-fly zone.

This is a non-partisan issue. It is a matter of decency and respect for human life. Especially for those who have no voice. We must be that voice. Help me to support them by calling your Congressperson and Senators at (toll free) 1-877-762-8762. Thank you so much, and God bless you.
