The Federalist: Founders' Daily Quote(s) 5/21/2005

Monday, May 16, 2005
"If the present Congress errs in too much talking, how can it be otherwise in a body to which the people send 150 lawyers, whose trade it is to question everything, yield nothing, & talk by the hour? That 150 lawyers should do business together ought not to be expected." --Thomas Jefferson

Amen! All ye lawyers, resign! Go away. Do your dirty work somewhere else. We want legislative bills written in ENGLISH. Thank you.

"[T]here exists in the economy and course of nature, an indissoluble union between virtue and happiness; between duty and advantage; between the genuine maxims of an honest and magnanimous policy, and the solid rewards of public prosperity and felicity." --George Washington

Capitalism, baby. Right on.

"Men of energy of character must have enemies; because there are two sides to every question, and taking one with decision, and acting on it with effect, those who take the other will of course be hostile in proportion as they feel that effect." --Thomas Jefferson

We've noticed, but do they have to take it out on the troops?

"Government implies the power of making laws. It is essential to the idea of a law, that it be attended with a sanction; or, in other words, a penalty or punishment for disobedience." --Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 15

You mean it really isn't to save the person from themselves? No reform? No TV, basketball, hot food, comforts of home? Gee, and I thought I was the only way saying this!

"We have therefore to resolve to conquer or die: Our won Country's Honor, all call upon us for vigorous and manly exertion, and if we now shamefully fail, we shall become infamous to the whole world. Let us therefore rely upon the goodness of the Cause, and the aid of the supreme Being, in whose hands Victory is, to animate and encourage us to great and noble Actions." --George Washington

Uh oh. He referred to God. I wonder if the ACLU will try to get this speech stricken from the record? After all, the only freedom of speech they agree with is everything EXCEPT God.

I also agree that if we ever get to the point where we are not willing to stand up as one against our enemy, we are doomed. One question: Why is the press on the side of the enemy?
