The Federalist: Founders' Daily Quote(s) 4/16/2005

Monday, April 11, 2005
"We have the wolf by the ears, and we can neither hold him, nor safely let him go. Justice is in one scale, and self-preservation in the other." --Thomas Jefferson

Have you ever noticed how timely these quotes are? If our choice is either to have a run-away judiciary or self-preservation, is there any question? Of course we must survive. For if we do not, what good is all the justice in the world?

"A republic of this kind, able to withstand an external force, may support itself without any internal corruptions. The form of this society prevents all manner of inconveniences." --Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 9

Yes, Mr. Hamilton. It was. :(

"No taxes can be devised which are not more or less inconvenient and unpleasant." --George Washington

And your point is what? Stop taxing us. Period!

"If men are so wicked with religion, what would they be if without it?" --Benjamin Franklin

OMG! Good point, Ben.

"Tyranny has perhaps oftener grown out of the assumptions of power, called for, on pressing exigencies, by a defective constitution, than out of the full exercise of the largest constitutional authorities." --Alexander Hamilton & James Madison, FederalistNo. 20

Sounds to me like he's saying, "Vote on the Judges, will ya?!" If they do not, Republicans deserve to lose the majority. They do not know what to do with it. Democrats need to remember what they are doing. This will be a time when turnabout is fair game. The losers? The American people. Thanks a lot.
