U.S. Slams China's Repatriation of North Koreans

The State Department has finally sent a very harsh criticism to China for not allowing N. Koreans the rights afforded every defector seeking assylum. China denies them the right to gain access to (the heavy guarded by Chinese) the United Nations Refugee Agency. As long as I have been following this issue, the UNRA has allowed this to continue.

China is a party to the 1951 Convention on Refugees which states they must abide by, afford the NK's the Human Rights every person deserves. The only problem is that "China" did not sign this treaty. Taiwan did. Do you still believe in the "one China" theory?

The State Department's 2004 Human Rights Report on China declares several thousand NK's were 'reportedly' detained and forcibly repatriated. Some of them, upon return, were executed.

Eight or nine NK's that were sent back to Chongjin City, N. Hamgyeong Province, and other cities in mid-January were executed. A total of 60 defectors were executed in various detention gulags throughout NK. There are some who suggest that the people who were executed were helped by South Korean Christian Missionaries. This was to send a message to the rest of the NK's not to flee. You can read more here.
