Suggested help to raise awareness for Darfur, Sudan

Take Action for Darfur!

Beginning today, the weekly news will begin with suggestions for actions you can take to hasten the end of the violence in Darfur. The news summary will follow the weekly action items.

The most important contribution you can make is to help President Bush understand that Americans want to end the genocide. Voice your concerns about the genocide in Darfur by calling President Bush's office: (202) 456-1414. Urge the president to take stronger measures to improve civilian protection in Darfur. If you are participating in the National Weekend of Prayer, please describe your involvement with this event and ask the President to participate. Then store this number in your phone and use it often to voice your concerns about the Darfur crisis.

The following script may be helpful to you:

"Hi. My name is ________, from _________. I am calling to encourage the President to take stronger measures to support civilian protection in Darfur. I feel the U.S. is neglecting its responsibility to protect innocent victims of violence in Darfur. President Bush should lead the world in a strong response to this terrible humanitarian crisis, by putting pressure on the Security Council and other nations to create the means for civilian protection in Darfur and address the humanitarian catastrophe.

I also wanted to let the President know that I am involved with the National Weekend of Prayer and Reflection for Darfur. I hope the President plans on participating in the National Weekend as well. This event is an excellent opportunity to educate the public on the issues in Darfur and pray for those affected by the situation. Thank you for your time."

It is easy and takes little time to make this call, and your voice will make a difference. Please call right now.
