Bloggers Unite: Univ. of Oregon BANS Support of Troops
There is a form letter going around now. I have not yet seen it. I just heard about it over the radio station KRLA 870, Listen Live. In the mean time, while this is being banned due to University(?) Policy that no political statement may be posted on government property, some teachers have formed a group named Concerned Faculty for Justice and Peace! And that's isn't political? They held a meeting upon which they declared their opposition to the war. I'd say they need some diversity training.
This is the kind of behaviour I am tired of. I am not tired of dissent. People of both sides need to settle down. We need to work together as one family. You do not shut up people who don't agree with you, and then expect them to sit back and say nothing. I will not say nothing. You have no authority, legal or otherwise, to teach children with open minds to hate their country, to shut people down, to have closed minds, etc. How dare you. What ever happened to Mathematics, Reading, Writing, Sciences, and the Arts? No wonder we are in trouble. GET OUT THE TEACHERS!
Dear President Bush,
I am writing you concerning my tax dollars being held hostage by University of Oregon. I want you to stop all monies earmarked for UOE, and I would like it sent to Walter Reid for the patients. Thank you.
Sincerely yours,
Rosemary
Below is part of a blog from Kevin McCullough. He was filling in for Hugh Hewitt today when I heard about this situation.
I would like to say thank you for all bloggers that pick up this story. Let's all call, and let's send polite e-mails. Together, we can move mountains. Have a great day.UNIVERSITY BANS SUPPORT FOR THE TROOPS: A truly disgusting policy is being carried out at the University of Oregon.Magnetic Yellow Ribbons that say "Support The Troops" have been surreptitiously banned by the administration at the University of Oregon.
The origin of the policy was a complaint from a fellow employee and the claim was that the sticker was in fact a "political statement".
The employee who had the magnetic ribbons had put them on his vehicle months previous - but Friday a university employee complained. So let's review...
1. University employees at the University of Oregon are not allowed to support the troops who defend those employees' freedoms and the security they live under.
2. "Supporting the troops" is deemed a political statement...so much for the "We all support the troops" talking points.
3. Even if this WAS political expression - university employees are not allowed to express themselves politically? (Can Instapundit or the PowerLine gurus weigh in on the legalities of University Campus political expression?) Since when did the Bill of Rights have to undergo perusal and permission of the Administration of the University of Oregon?
I think a blog swarm/storm on this should be formed immediately. The very least we Americans should be allowed to do is to support those who fight and too many times die to allow the rest of us to live free...
